Asbestos Exposure from Wilkinson Pleaters, Macclesfield
19 Aug 2020
John Moore, worked at Wilkinson Pleaters Ltd at Melville House in Macclesfield as a pleater and maintenance operative between 1992/93 and 1996/97.
Sadly John has gone on to develop mesothelioma, an asbestos related cancer, as a result of his exposure to asbestos dust and debris.
Whilst undertaking repairs John worked on pipework which it is believed were agged with asbestos. To maintain the pipes he had to isolate the leak and then strip away the lagging using a textile knife.
Wilkinson Pleaters made skirts for clothing retailers such as Marks and Spencer’s in addition to curtains and kilts. The site was very dusty and this covered the clothes that John worked in.
John is appealing for anyone who worked at Wilkinson Pleaters and recalls asbestos on site to contact the Asbestos Law Partnership. John said; “the diagnosis came as a big shock to my wife and I. We’ve tried to muddle through with our sense of humour and cheerful outlook but it’s difficult to know that as a result of hard work I’ve been struck down by this terminal illness.”
