MESothelioma Support Yorkshire - John Pickering & Partners Charity Donation Funds 2018 Meetings
05 Jun 2018
The John Pickering and Partners Charitable Trust are proud their donation to Mesothelioma Support Yorkshire (MESSY) will fund the support group to hold monthly meetings throughout 2018.
MESSY is an information and support group for those affected by mesothelioma living in west and north Yorkshire. MESSY not only provides information and practical advice to mesothelioma sufferers and their families but also the opportunity to meet, speak to and share with others affected by this disease.
MESSY was set up by Simon Bolton, a Mesothelioma Clinical Nurse Specialist based at Harrogate and District Hospital who has considerable experience spanning many years in the care of those diagnosed with mesothelioma.
Simon facilitates the meetings, organising speakers to attend as well as ensuring attendees can speak to legal and nursing specialists on the day if they have any questions. He is also available to provide support to attendees outside of the meetings.
The charity’s donation will allow MESSY to have 12 rather than 8 meetings in 2018.
Accepting the donation on behalf of MESSY, Simon commented “The John Pickering and Partners Charitable Trust very generously agreed to fund the cost of the meeting venue for MESothelioma Support Yorkshire (MESSY) throughout 2018. The group has flourished over the last 18 months with many more mesothelioma patients, their families and carers attending the meetings. The donation will enable the group to have 12 meetings which will bring together those affected by mesothelioma in around Yorkshire and provide an informal learning and sharing environment.”
Fozia Hussain, trustee of the charity said “We feel honoured to support MESSY in this way. It’s extremely important mesothelioma sufferers and their families have access to a support group where they can not only obtain information but also share their concerns and ask the questions that are important to them. MESSY is and will continue to prove valuable to those affected by mesothelioma in this region.”
