John Pickering and Partners Charitable Trust Donates to Kirkwood Hospice
12 Oct 2017
The John Pickering and Partners Charitable Trust once again has demonstrated its commitment to protect and promote the health and care of respiratory disease sufferers, including mesothelioma sufferers, by donating £1000 to Kirkwood Hospice in Huddersfield. The hospice does excellent work in supporting those suffering from mesothelioma, a terminal cancer of the lining of the lung caused by exposure to asbestos dust, and their family members, not only as inpatients but also as outpatients. The hospice also supports and cares for people suffering from other respiratory diseases such as COPD and asbestosis by providing rehabilitative services.
Helen Wilson, a Trustee of the JPPCT commented, "We are really pleased to make this donation to the hospice and know that it will make a difference to the services they deliver. Hospice care such as that provided by Kirkwood Hospice is invaluable to both patients and their families.”
Duncan Batty and Dr Stephen Oxberry, the Hospice’s Medical Director, received the donation on behalf of Kirkwood Hospice. Of the support Dr Oxberry said “Kirkwood is fortunate to have a highly skilled multidisciplinary team who have experience in managing the symptoms of patients with mesothelioma, such as breathlessness, pain and fatigue. We were delighted to welcome Fozia and Helen from The John Pickering and Partners Charitable Trust to the Hospice to show them some of the work we do to support patients in Kirklees with lung conditions and mesothelioma in particular. We are very grateful for their kind donation and hope to work together in the future to provide more clinical care for the patients who need our support.”
The John Pickering and Partners Charitable Trust was set up in 2009 by the partners of the law firm, John Pickering and Partners LLP who donated 10% of their net profits to good causes including the JPPCT. Over the years various small and large projects have been funded across the country. Whilst John Pickering and Partners LLP may no longer exist now the work of the JPPCT continues and is now supported by The Asbestos Law Partnership LLP who donate 10% of their net profits to good causes including the JPPCT.
