John Pickering and Partners Charity Donates to Calderdale’s Overgate Hospice
12 Oct 2017
The John Pickering and Partners Charitable Trust are proud to have donated £1000 to Overgate Hospice who provide specialist palliative and end of life care for adults in the Calderdale and Kirklees areas of West Yorkshire.
Due to the use of asbestos by industries in the region, Overgate has sadly cared for and supported the families of countless sufferers of the asbestos related cancers mesothelioma and lung cancer as both inpatients and in their Day Hospice. Overgate not only works hard for those with a terminal illness but also works hard to overcome the barriers faced by people with a non-malignant diagnosis in getting hospice care. Overgate run a ‘Breath of Fresh Air’ programme in their Day Hospice that cares for patients with advanced non-cancerous respiratory disease. Being the only hospice in Calderdale, Overgate provides essential care quickly and compassionately.
Fozia Hussain, Trustee of The John Pickering and Partners charity, pictured here with Dr Rachel Shiels, Medical Director of Overgate Hospice, commented “We are extremely grateful for the hard work Overgate Hospice do to support mesothelioma and other respiratory disease sufferers and their families at what is always a difficult and distressing time of their lives. The compassion and kindness they show leaves a lasting mark on the families who often, after the loss of their loved one, support the hospice with fundraising in memory of their lost loved one. We are proud to do our bit by making this donation.”
The John Pickering and Partners Charitable Trust was set up in 2009 by the partners of the law firm, John Pickering and Partners LLP who donated 10% of their net profits to good causes including the JPPCT. Over the years various small and large projects have been funded across the country. Whilst John Pickering and Partners LLP may no longer exist now the work of the JPPCT continues and is now supported by The Asbestos Law Partnership LLP who donate 10% of their net profits to good causes including the JPPCT. The Asbestos Law Partnership also assist their Clients to seek the costs incurred by a hospice in looking after asbestos disease sufferers from the opponents in their compensation claims. The amount recovered is passed to the hospice to ensure they can continue to provide essential and valuable services to others.
